Squeeg’s built this one for a cause. The ’55 pedal car was made for the charity auction at the 2022 Grand National Roadster Show, where Monty Belsham, whose Squeeg’s-built ’32 Muroc won America’s Most Beautiful Roadster in 2020, took it home with a $15,000 bid. In-N-Out Burger triple-matched the bid, so the little orange Chevy raised $60,000 for Slave 2 Nothing, a charity that fights substance abuse and human trafficking.
It started life in October 2021 as a stock white ’55-style pedal car, the kind with chrome hubcaps and a tin steering wheel. It left the bench three months later as a pro-street Chevy in miniature.
The body was cut apart the way a full-size car would be: the top chopped, the body sectioned, and the rear tubbed and widened to clear a pair of Hoosier slicks. Fresh sheet metal was welded in wherever the stock tin ran out, and a blower scoop was shaped by hand to come up through the hood. Underneath, a new chassis was built from flat aluminum plate, with the slicks out back and spindle-mount wheels up front.
Then it went through the same paint shop as everything else at Squeeg’s — primer, blocking, the booth — and came out orange, with a blue-and-magenta stripe running the length of the car and a white bug-catcher on top. Finished January 2022.
